About

Virginia’s background covers a variety of disciplines which have all influenced her work. Beginning her creative career in jewellery and silver-smithing (BA Visual Arts, Sydney College of the Arts 1983), Virginia went onto complete her Architecture degree in 1996. In between those years, Virginia lived overseas and became an accomplished cook working full time for Gay Bilson at the renowned Berowra Waters Inn, Sydney.

Virginia established her first practice, “Virginia Wong See Architect”, to focus on sustainable kitchen design after extensive research in Italy and Germany for a 1995 thesis entitled “The EcoKitchen”.  These fundamental design principles have remained central to her overall approach.

Over the years, Virginia’s extensive travels allowed her to pursue interests in food and architecture. She studied in London, Rome, Milan and Siena. Her travels include Europe, Asia, Africa, Egypt and United States.

Outside of her client-focussed work, Virginia’s professional experience includes consulting on kitchens for large firms, lecturing in Kitchen Design at the Universities of Sydney and Newcastle and tutoring in design at the University of NSW.

Now based in Armidale, architecture @ altitude practices both locally, and, in surrounding regions such as Gunnedah, Tamworth, Coonabarabran, Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Moree and Uralla, as well as projects in Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

All projects are documented using ArchiCAD which provides clear 3D images for our clients along with BIMx 3D rendering, and more traditional plans, sections and elevations.

Virginia was a committee member for the Australian Institute of Architects Country Division for six years, and a Founding Committee Member of the Regional Architecture Association.
